Zedler-Institut Qualifies Experts for E-Bike and Carbon Assessments

Twenty participants deepened their expertise in the assessment of e-bikes, carbon components, and modern cargo bicycles during a two-day advanced training course held in April at the Zedler-Institut in Ludwigsburg.

The training focused on the analysis and evaluation of motors and batteries in EPAC systems as well as the inspection of carbon components. Participants from the bicycle industry, automotive experts, and insurance field adjusters expanded their knowledge of diagnostic methods, typical fault patterns, and repair procedures.

The “Advanced” training covered:
• E-bike systems, diagnostic options, and typical fault patterns
• Carbon materials, testing and repair options
• Detailed differentiation between pre-existing wear and prior damage
• Evaluation of current bicycle technology with regard to replacement values
• Initial plausibility assessments using real-world example

**High Practical Relevance Confirmed**

Participants rated the content, the balance between practical and theoretical instruction, the expertise of the lecturers, and the organization with an average grade of 1.3. Roland Leutheußer from the Expert Office for Vehicle Technology described the experience as yielding “sensational impressions.” Alexander Seidel from Konrad Sachverständige GmbH confirmed: “Just like the Basic course, a really strong performance.

**Expertise from More Than 15,000 Expert Reports**

Through its Basic and Advanced training programs, the Zedler-Institut shares experience gained from more than 15,000 bicycle damage assessment reports. The courses are intended to help ensure that bicycle damage claims can be settled more quickly in the future through the nationwide availability of specialized experts.

More than 100,000 bicycle accidents occur annually in Germany. According to the Zedler Institut, claims settlement often becomes a years-long issue for affected parties due to the lack of experienced bicycle assessors and bicycle-specific expertise.

“The assessment of modern bicycles places special demands – both in terms of technical evaluation and transparent documentation,” the institute emphasizes. Simply transferring established automotive assessment practices does not adequately reflect either bicycle technology or the bicycle market.

**Further Dates Available**

The next Basic and Advanced training courses will take place in autumn 2026. Information and registration are available at www.zedler.de/de/termine

Based in Ludwigsburg, the Zedler-Institut has been developing testing systems, test methods, and technical documentation for the bicycle industry for more than 20 years. Managing Director Dirk Zedler is a publicly appointed and sworn expert for bicycles and electric bicycles.
